Today a yellow warning was issued over Belfast as the lovely people over at CMPR officially launched Belfast Fashion Week for Spring Summer 15.

They have kept to the same amazing venue as last season settling into Life Church on Bruce Street, which is only a short walk from the main city centre. Today was a day to showcase some of the incredible local talent we will see on the catwalks as well as the shops and boutiques that would be participating. Some of my personal highlights where local up and coming designer Chloe Dougan

Her work is effortlessly stunning and oozes sex appeal, I am sure it is going to be a winner on the runway in March!

What I find so great about Belfast fashion week is how much they nurture and expose new local talent, this season is Chloe Dougan’s first which can also be said for stylist turned designer Sara Neil and local design duo Neil Coogan and John Gerard O’Neil who all show for the first time this March. Fashion week is being held from the 19th to the 22nd of March this year and if you guys are interested you can buy tickets HERE . I have been a volunteer with BFW for the last seven seasons and each season I get even more excited about what is in-store! I think Cathy Martin and the team have so much in-store for us this time around that it is definitely not to be missed with so many different events happening during the week there is definitely something for everyone!

So the toughest part of today was working out what I wanted to wear, knowing that you are going to be surrounded by a room full of local fashions finest is a tough ask for someone who isn’t all that used to dressing up by I gave it my best shot:

Outfit Details:

Dress- Scarlett and Jo via Evans (SALE BARGAIN similar linked )

Shoes- New Look (SALE BARGAIN nothing similar sorry guys)

Necklace- Topshop (SALE BARGAIN not on-line sorry again guys )

I think overall I was really pleased with my outfit it was for me a perfect way to introduce spring summer colours when it is still freezing outside. My hair looks so dark and flat in this photo but it is more of an auburn in real-life. I am just so happy to have a lovely photo of myself in colour and in a dress to prove to the doubters out there that I can wear something other than all black!

If this was the just the launch I cannot wait to see what this season will have in-store, make sure to keep an eye on the blog in March as I usually do a couple of backstage posts such as THIS ONE from last season.

I hope you enjoyed this guys, thanks to the wonderful Brendan Gallagher for taking such great pictures whilst both of my cameras have decided to break down in the space of a week

Until Next Time…T-J xox

Behind the Scenes: Argento Campaign Shoot

Probably my favorite image using  Inner Power necklaces

I am sure I have mentioned before that throughout my degree I have made a conscious effort to gain as much experience as possible in various areas of the fashion industry. As you would I have seen a few posts ago I have been working alot at Belfast Fashion week over the past eight seasons and through this I have made several contacts one of which is renowned local stylist Eve Brannon  about a month or so ago now I assisted on an all day shoot for the Argento campaign images for autumn winter 14. The shoot was shot by the amazing Khara Pringle in her Belfast based studio. The concept was that we would use 2 different backdrops and shoot a very monochromatic palette so that the jewellery was the focal point of the shoot. I have waited until the shots have begun to appear in-store so that I don’t post any spoilers. This was the first shoot I had done which was an all day affair, I have had opportunities to do this before but I haven’t been able to stay due to other commitments.

The first part of any shoot is set up of all the different departments from the photographic team to hair and make-up. This is probably the lengthy and some what boring part of any shoot but it is so so important for the success of the rest of the shoot that you take time at this stage to make sure everything is right.

20140820_103918

20140820_090403

Then it is time for the hair and make-up team to work their magic on the model. They will usually have been given a rough brief of what the company that have ordered the shoot want from the look. The will have inspirational images to reference throughout the day and will be on shoot all day for touch ups and changes to the looks. They will work along side the photographer to ensure that the look transfers exactly in the photograph, for example an up-style might look brilliant in person but look rubbish in a photograph.

20140820_085954

At this point my usual task is prepping the looks, helping organise them by retailer or theme, ensuring that we have all the items we are supposed to and if any items need steamed or adjusted ( pinned up in length for example)

The photographer at this point will do some test shots to make sure the lighting is working in the image and make any necessary adjustments.

One important tool used during the day is the laptop viewer, this previews each image as it is taken and allows the photographer to ensure all the details of the image are in focus.

The model in question was the beautiful Sif from Models One  she had flown over especially for the shoot!

The rest of the day is then a mix of outfit and jewellery changes and of course a lunch break!

I hope you guys like this sort of post, helping with shoots is probably one of my favourite things to do I love any and all expierence I can gain and I am blessed to have built a great relationship with local stylists who allow my to assist on various projects. If you guys want any more info about how to get to work with local stylists or any info about any type of fashion voluntary experience drop me a wee email or tweet me @gingersnapsvtge

Until next time…T-J xo

L’affaire at Coco Belfast

Beauty, Fashion

Today Coco Belfast hosted a celebration of local design talented in the heart of the city. I was very honored to be asked to show two of my latest creations. I love events like this because they show just how amazing local talent is in Northern Ireland, designers that showed included:

  • Gordan Donaldson
  • Una Rodden
  • Nicole McKenna
  • Katie Wilson
  • Deimante Vuitton
  • Reda
  • Myself

The setting was great because it had a really intimate feel and you could really see all the gorgeous outfits up close and personal.

Pre-show we got to relax in the beautiful atmosphere of Coco with a glass of bubbly and a beautiful selection of canapes, all the while listening to relaxing french music.

IMG_1264 IMG_1271   IMG_1278

Round one was Gordon Donaldson a local up and coming designer and also a classmate of mine ( well technically he is a year above me) I have always loved Gordan’s work and his choice of fabrics and prints today didn’t disappoint.

IMG_1282 IMG_1285

Next up was me, I just finished making these floral crowns yesterday and I am so happy with how they look with the garments, the colours really compliment the outfits, I will be doing a better post on my work very soon so expect better pictures then.

IMG_1290 IMG_1287

Next up Nicole McKenna another fellow classmate and her collection entitled Spoiled is a great mix of metallic, faux leathers and prints. The mirrored leather skirt is definitely one of my favourite pieces from today’s event.

IMG_1292 IMG_1293 IMG_1307 IMG_1312

Next up was Deimante and her mum showing that fashion definitely runs in their family. Deimante’s work was a beautiful mix of floral vintage with a modern twist. Just how beautiful is that gold nude dress on the stunning model Ella.

Round 6 and 7 was Katie Wilson and Una Rodden. Una Rodden is an established local designer who I have had the pleasure to do a placement with in upper sixth, I have always loved her style especially her drapey dresses such as the beautiful emerald green number. Katie is another designer local to Belfast who actually works with Una Rodden, her style again is another of my favorites I feel like I could write a whole blog post about the gold heavy embellished dress again worn by Ella.

Overall it was a great event and I would definitely recommend if you are local to Belfast checking it out if they decide to repeat it because its a great afternoon out!

Also if you are looking for a great local restaurant for a bite to eat then I would definately recommend Coco Belfast:
